It’s officially Pride Month and the LGBTQ community is celebrating in full swing! However, similar to year’s past, the celebration has come with some backlash. Recently, it was announced that three straight men in Boston are planning their own event for “Straight Pride,” which became a buzzing topic on social media yesterday. Sharing his opinion in an attempt to educate users on social media of the importance of Pride month and to denounce “Straight Pride,” Chris Evans wrote a special message on Twitter.

The Avengers star wrote his message in reply to a tweet from The Washington Post, who shared a story of three guys in Boston looking for a permit for a “Straight Pride” parade. In his response he wrote:

“Wow! Cool initiative, fellas!! Just a thought, instead of ‘Straight Pride’ parade, how about this: The ‘desperately trying to bury our own gay thoughts by being homophobic because no one taught us how to access our emotions as children’ parade? Whatta ya think? Too on the nose??”

Evans continued his response by sharing a tweet from James Fell, a writer for the LA Times, who explains how “Straight Pride” can be interpreted as a form of homophobia.

“Wow, the number gay/straight pride parade false equivalencies are disappointing. For those who don’t understand the difference, see below. Instead of going immediately to anger (which is actually just fear of what you don’t understand) take a moment to search for empathy and growth,” Evans wrote.

In response to Evans’ post, many fans thanked the Avenger for speaking out on the topic.

Twitter user @riversbloom wrote: “Thank you for using your voice for lgbtq+ individuals everywhere. We love you so much and appreciate you greatly!”

@Icegirl69 replied: “Thank you for always using your platform for good, and for actually *using* your platform instead of staying silent.”
