It’s official, “Avengers: Endgame” has officially passed “Avatar” at the domestic box office, making it the second-highest grossing film ever in the U.S. with a total of $780 million.

The movie that grossed over $1 billion in its opening weekend is continuing its streak of breaking major records at the box office! Although, as incredible as this feat is for the Earth’s mightiest heroes, technically, they still sit in second place at the all-time worldwide box office behind James Cameron’s “Avatar.”

“Avatar” brought in $2.78 billion worldwide while “Avengers: Endgame” currently sits at $2.6 billion. Can “Avengers: Endgame” possibly keep growing and surpass “Avatar” in the global box office as well? At this rate, it seems it could still be possible.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” currently sits as the highest-grossing film of all time domestically with $936.6 million.

“From the very beginning with ‘Iron Man,’ all we’ve wanted to do was tell stories that brought these characters to life onscreen the way we’ve experienced them as fans of the comics,” said Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, after “Endgame” hit its first $1 billion at the global box office in its opening weekend. “That we’ve had so many other successes in this journey leading to this unbelievable result with ‘Avengers: Endgame’ has been almost entirely due to the fans around the world who have supported us through it all. Our directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, and our writers, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, really brought this story home, and I am also incredibly thankful for our cast and filmmakers from across the MCU and all who’ve worked so hard to make these films the best they can be, including the amazing teams at Marvel Studios and Disney. And of course, without Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, none of this would have been possible.”
