There’s no better way to spend the holidays than at Walt Disney World. This year the Most Magical Place on Earth is getting even merrier with Disney’s Animal Kingdom joining in the holiday fun!
Disney just announced that all-new festive décor, shows, and experiences will be coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom for the 2019 holiday season. Previously, guests have enjoyed holiday events like Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom and Epcot’s International Festival of the Holidays. Now, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is joining in the holiday cheer, and it looks like guests can experience more merriment and magic than ever before.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Holiday Entertainment
As Disney describes the new holiday happenings at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, guests will be immersed in holiday cheer as soon as they cross the bridge to Discovery Island, where they will be immersed in a celebration of winter hand-crafted by the island’s artists. Discovery Island is themed to be a village, and this year it will be filled with sparkling white holiday décor, from colorful, animal-inspired luminaries lining the rooftops to wireframe lanterns adorning the area. During the day, Discovery Island will showcase a holiday gathering of winter animals in the form of life-size artisan-sculpted puppets, including reindeer, foxes, polar bears, and penguins. Musicians will serenade guests with festive holiday music, as well.
Guests can encounter even more holiday entertainment at the nightly Tree of Life Awakening, which will be reimagined for the holiday season to include winter tales and holiday-inspired music. Disney shared that throughout the evening, the Tree of Life will shimmer and sparkle in the spirit of the holidays. How magical!
Other holiday entertainment can be found in Dinoland, U.S.A., where guests can gather for the Holiday Hoopla Dance Party with Chip ‘n Dale. We love Donald’s Dono-Bash! and we’re so excited to dance along with our favorite furry friends during this festive time of year, too.
Special holiday décor throughout the park
We mentioned that much of the holiday décor throughout Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be found at the centerpiece of the park, Discovery Island, as well as in Dinoland, U.S.A. But guests will also discover beautiful holiday decorations all around the theme park.
The residents of Anandapur in Asia will decorate the theatre district in celebration of Diwali, India’s festival of lights. Here, guests will find glowing flowers, lanterns, and more illuminating the square between Anandapur Theater and the waterfront stage, where they may even catch a glimpse of authentic cultural performances.
You’ll also find holiday décor in the village of Harambe in Africa, where the festivities have blended the inspiration and style of western holiday traditions with the colors and textiles of authentic African celebrations. There will be holiday-inspired costumes and new music added to the performances of the music groups in Harambe, and Mickey and his friends will also join in the holiday cheer at Tusker House restaurant.
Finally, the magic of Christmas can be found in Pandora – The World of Avatar, too. Pongu Pongy will display holiday décor that combines vintage pieces from Earth with handcrafted Pandoran materials.
By the sounds of it, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will become one of the many destinations for holiday cheer at Walt Disney World Resort this season. Now we’re plotting our next visit!
The holidays at Walt Disney World begin November 8, 2019.
