Big changes are coming Disneyland fans, from a refreshed look to Sleeping Beauty Castle to the addition of an all-new parking structure, Disneyland Resort is undergoing its fair share of renovations and updates to improve guest experience. And now, the latest of those changes is happening in one of the most well-known areas of the resort: Adventureland in Disneyland.

That’s right. Disneyland plans to remove the sign above the entrance to Adventureland. But don’t worry; it won’t be gone for long.

Disney recently filed a permit to the City of Anaheim which states that the company wants to “demo existing marquee and install new footings with sign.” While the removal of the iconic and recognizable sign that displays at the entrance to Adventureland may come as a shock to many fans and frequenters of the theme park, this announcement isn’t anything new. Disney first shared plans to rework the entrance to Adventureland in an announcement last month. Here’s what the company had to say of the change:

We also will be working on the entrance and marquee to Adventureland as part of Project Stardust. We will temporarily take the marquee down to remove a walkway support for ease of guest flow. Other Project Stardust enhancements include policy updates in an effort to make the theme park experience more enjoyable for guests…When Project Stardust is complete, Disneyland park will remain the beloved icon and international treasure it is today, while preparing the Disneyland Resort for generations of future guests.

The removal of the current sign at the entrance to Adventureland in Disneyland is part of the larger Project Stardust, an effort to create park-wide enhancements that will range from overall beautification of the theme park to the maximizing of guest comfort and access. Many of these changes come ahead of the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the all-new immersive land that Disney believes will bring a record-breaking number of guests to the theme parks, making Disneyland even more crowded than normal.

Even though many Disneyland fans would be disappointed to see the Adventureland marquee go (even if it’s only for a little while), it can be said that the end result of a more accessible Adventureland entrance and walkway is worth the wait and effort. Adventureland is notoriously one of the most crowded areas in all of Disneyland. And while the narrow, winding walkways make Adventureland that much more immersive, they do not leave much room for crowd control, and many frequent visitors of the theme park try to avoid walking throughout Adventureland during busy times of day. With Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening in only a number of weeks, it’s no wonder Disneyland Resort is making a conscious effort to improve guest experience all over the theme parks, including Adventureland.

But don’t worry Disneyland fans, given the history and significance of the Adventureland sign, it will be back good as new and hanging over the improved walkway in no time.
