If you’re planning a trip to Walt Disney World in Florida, chances are you’ve heard mixed reviews about the weather. Some say it’s a summer-lover’s paradise, while others can’t stand the humidity. But one thing’s for sure about Orlando weather: it’s unpredictable.

During your Walt Disney World vacation, you’re more than likely to experience your fair share of sunshine and downpours, and depending on the time of year it could be sunny and 80 degrees one day and cold the next (thanks, Florida winter weather). Here are some tips for planning for all weather conditions on your Walt Disney World vacation.

Don’t underestimate the Florida heat

If the only time you can visit Walt Disney World is in the summer months, then you are guaranteed to experience the Orlando heat. Summers at Walt Disney World are the hottest times of the year, but it can be hot and humid year round. So it’s important that you don’t underestimate the Florida heat and take proper precautions no matter what time of year you visit.

Don’t assume it will be sunny and hot the entire trip

Just as you shouldn’t underestimate how hot it can be, you also shouldn’t assume that it will be sunny and hot during your entire trip. Be sure to check the weather periodically during the weeks leading up to your vacation. Like we said, Florida weather can be unpredictable, so you want to prepare for anything. If you are going in the winter, chances are you will experience colder weather during your Orlando stay, though some days can be warmer or colder than others. Spring and Fall can often present varying temperatures. Do your research and prepare for various weather conditions if you are visiting in the in-between seasons.

Always bring rain gear

Trust us. If there is even the slightest chance of rain during your trip, bring rain gear. If there is no chance of rain whatsoever, still bring rain gear. The weather can vary drastically in any given day in Walt Disney World, and showers can come sporadically throughout the day. It could be sunny one hour and a torrential downpour the next. Be prepared and pack those rain ponchos so the showers won’t stop you from having a good time. Also, be sure to check out our 13 best tips to enjoy your day at Disney World when it rains.

Check the weather for different locations throughout Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World is approximately 50 square miles of magic, so the weather can vary from park to park. It can be raining in Epcot while it is sunny in Magic Kingdom. So you should be sure to check the weather for different locations on Disney property so you know what to prepare for (or what weather you can avoid) at each park. The weather won’t vary drastically, but it is always good to be prepared for each location you visit.

Store your extra items in a locker

If you aren’t sure what to expect on your day in the park, you can always rent a locker. In the winter months, it could get warm by the afternoon and temperatures could drop in the evening, so rent a locker to store your thicker jackets or pullovers so you don’t have to carry them around the park during the day. Don’t let the idea of carrying too much with you keep you from bringing your own jacket to the parks. Instead, rent a locker to store your things so you don’t get stuck buying a sweatshirt for each of your family members once the temperature drops after the sun goes down.
