Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge finally opens at Disneyland Resort this summer (and at Walt Disney World in late fall) and preparations for the new land are underway across Disneyland park. With a massive amount of people expected to visit, Disneyland is working to improve guest flow and spruce up the park’s appearance.

In addition to refurbishment for Sleeping Beauty Castle, enhancements are taking place in other locations as part of Project Stardust. As large crowds are expected for opening weekend of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and beyond, the curbs on Main Street, U.S.A are being enhanced with slow inclines to improve access near the park entrance. Throughout the park, the locations of outdoor vending carts and planters are being adjusted to create more walking space and new, more efficient stroller areas. Additional seating will also be added throughout the park, giving guests more chances to take a break during the hot summer days ahead.

Steps are also being taken to make sure Disneyland park looks its best as guests head towards Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Main Street, U.S.A is getting new brickwork, and for the first time, the horse-drawn streetcar track was replaced in its entirety.

Though many guests may head straight to Galaxy’s Edge upon arrival at the park, other attractions will surely see bigger crowds too. In preparation, the ride queues at Matterhorn Bobsleds, it’s a small world, and Dumbo the Flying Elephant have been reconfigured to improve access and comfort. Tropical Hideaway, the recently opened marketplace in Adventureland, also offers an enticing place to hang out pre- or post-visit to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

While Sleeping Beauty Castle is undergoing refurbishment through the spring, guests will have some new photo opportunities. The front of the castle will be covered with a scrim depicting Herb Ryman’s first rendering of the iconic castle, while according to Theme Park Insider, a scrim on the back of the castle will depict a life-sized Maleficent breathing fire on Prince Phillip’s shield. We haven’t seen the rendering of Maleficent yet, but we already wish she’d stick around even after the refurbishment ends.

For the most part, the enhancements around Disneyland park are subtle, but they’ll no doubt help improve guest access and overall experience when a large number of Star Wars and Disney fans descend in just a few months.
