The holiday season just got sweeter! Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa at Disneyland Resort is offering hotel guests the opportunity to build their own gingerbread houses.

A Grand Gingerbread House Experience is a special activity for hotel guests to work with Disneyland Resort’s talented and renowned pastry chefs, who created the gingerbread house on display in the lobby of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, the hotel which the gingerbread house is themed after. The Grand Gingerbread House Experience is a hands-on workshop that provides guests with a fun-filled holiday activity (and plenty of hot cocoa and cookies to enjoy, as well!). Guests can bring their gingerbread houses home with them after their stay at the Grand Californian ends, so you can display it as a holiday décor piece all season long.

Guests are advised to register for the event in advance in order to secure their spot. The gingerbread house building classes will take place in Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa from 2-3:30 p.m. on December 5, 11, 20, 21, 22, and 23, Hotel guests can call Guest Services at (714) 635-2300 or visit the Guest Services desk at the Grand Californian for more information regarding pricing, workshop details, and registration information.

Whether you’re able to attend the Grand Gingerbread House Experience workshop or you’re just passing through Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa during your Disneyland Resort visit, be sure to spend some time admiring the amazing (and grand!) gingerbread house on display in the hotel lobby. Disney chefs at Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, and Disney Cruise Line spend thousands of hours every year constructing highly details and beautiful gingerbread houses for countless guests to enjoy throughout the holiday season. For many, these gingerbread houses mark the most magical time of year at their favorite Disney destinations. The gingerbread house at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is an annual fan favorite among once-per-year Disney visitors and local annual passholders. And it smells just as good as it looks!

The gingerbread house is modeled after the hotel where it is located, and it stands seven and a half feet tall and 12 feet wide. Here are all of the ingredients needed to create the gingerbread house at the Grand Californian:

  • 600 pounds of gingerbread
  • 250 pounds of fondant
  • 12 gallons of egg whites
  • 3.5 gallons of lemon juice
  • 1 pound of “pixie dust” glitter
  • 16 bakers
  • 6 craftsmen (carpenters and draftsmen)
  • 2 electricians
  • 1,225 cast member hours to design and craft
  • 1,400 hours to bake edible elements

The gingerbread house is just as beautiful from as a distance as it is up close, so be sure to take your time meandering the lobby. You never know what hidden Mickeys you may find! While you’re visiting, grab a snack from the Holiday Cart nearby. We highly suggest the chocolate chip cookie shot, a cookie cup filled with chocolate milk. Delicious!
