According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” which won’t be released for another two weeks, has already been green-lit for a sequel and a spin-off by Sony.

The newest film from the Marvel Universe, this new animated web-slinging adventure has been generating a lot of buzz and praise for Sony’s ability to capture the original stories from the books into the film. Due to this excitement, it seems Sony is already working on bringing the famous comic book hero back to the big screen in more ways than one.

In a recent report by Hollywood Reporter, director Joaquin Dos Santos, best known for his directorial work on the Nickelodeon cartoon series “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” has been approached to direct a sequel to the new high-flying animated film. It’s also been reported that screenwriter David Callaham, writer of “The Expendables” and “Wonder Woman 1984” will be writing the film.

This report also discusses an “untitled Spider-centric project,” which will join together the forces of an all-female cast of super heroes in the Spider-Man universe, all into one adventure. The project will be headed by Lauren Montgomery, who worked on “Voltron” and who co-directed the animated movie “Batman: Year One.”

Amy Pascal, a producer on Spider-Verse, in addition to the live-action movies, will continue to serve as producer of these two new projects.

Details for the sequel have not been released, nor have any plot details for the all-female spinoff. However, it is believed that the all-female spinoff will center on Spider-Gwen.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the production on these two new films comes from Sony’s desire to capitalize on everything Spider-Man. Mostly because “Venom,” based on a Spider-Man villain, shattered box office records by raking in over $822 million worldwide since its Oct. 5 opening.

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” will swing into theaters officially on Dec. 14.
