Lin-Manuel Miranda, who plays the lamplighter Jack in Disney’s upcoming “Mary Poppins Returns,” has already proven he’s a master of social media with his Twitter account. To promote the new movie, Walt Disney Studios handed Miranda the reins of their Instagram account for the day, and it’s no surprise that he shared some delightful #Linstagram content.
The photos and videos feature Miranda doing mashups of Disney songs, moments from the set of “Mary Poppins Returns,” and some fun with his co-star, Emily Blunt, who plays Mary Poppins herself.
In addition to “Mary Poppins Returns,” Emily Blunt starred in Disney’s adaptation of the musical “Into the Woods,” which features music and lyrics by Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim. In this video, Miranda, a Broadway star himself with “Hamilton” and “In the Heights,” serenades Blunt with a snippet from “Into the Woods.””
While filming outside of Buckingham Palace in London, Miranda says he used a disguise to confuse paparazzi. Be sure to click through to the second photo for the royal reveal.
In “Mary Poppins Returns,” Miranda plays Jack, a friend of Mary Poppins. Based on the trailer, the character feels like a natural successor to Mary’s friend Bert in the original film, played by Dick Van Dyke. In addition to playing Bert in the 1964 movie, Van Dyke also appeared as Mr. Dawes, Sr., the elderly chairman of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank. For “Mary Poppins Returns,” Van Dyke returns to play Mr. Dawes, Jr., who took over the bank after Mr. Dawes, Sr. passed away.
In a fitting final photo, Miranda ended his #Linstagram takeover by sharing a picture of himself with Dick Van Dyke on the set of “Mary Poppins Returns.”
