Disney has been hard at work preparing the lineup for the launch of their new streaming service next year, and several new limited series centering on Marvel characters are reportedly in the works as well.

According to Variety, Disney plans to create “a number of limited series centered on popular characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.” This will likely include shows featuring Loki and Scarlet Witch, along with other Marvel characters who have yet to star in a standalone movie. The actors who play these roles on the big screen, such as Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen, are also expected to play them for Disney’s streaming shows. Characters who have already been featured in a standalone movie, such as Iron Man and Captain America, will not be featured in the shows.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is expected to have a hand in the series development, which is in early stages now. Each series will likely include six to eight episodes. According to the report, these new shows would be produced under the Marvel Studios banner as opposed to Marvel TV Studios, which produces “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” and “Jessica Jones,” among others.

Other projects already announced for Disney’s streaming service include a live-action “Lady and the Tramp,” a “Star Wars” series from “Jungle Book” and “Iron Man” director Jon Favreau, and a TV series based on “High School Musical.” In addition, the service will offer several of Disney’s upcoming theatrical releases when it launches, including the live-action “Dumbo” movie from Tim Burton (set for release March 29, 2019) and “Captain Marvel” (set for release March 8, 2019).

An exact launch date and cost for Disney’s streaming service have not been announced, and only time will tell if their original content can compete with Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and other streaming services currently on the market.
