Discovering Dark Detail at Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights – Part 1: Diabolical Décor

in Movies, Movies & TV, Theme Parks

Universal Studios Florida is famous for its fiendishly fun fall fear festival, Halloween Horror Nights. Monsters, mazes and macabre mayhem might be the norm, but there’s a deeper darkness to be discovered: delightfully devilish detail.

All ten trails of terror find themselves expertly dressed with sinister cinema quality props and even a few eerie Easter eggs.  However, dig a bit deeper into the darkness and a wickedly wonderful world of detailed dark décor awaits.

For this first fearsome installment of diabolical décor delights, a spirited pop-up, spooky shop of horrors and an ultimate tribute take the stage. All three are to die for with their insanely incredible detailed distractions and the tempting treasures found within.

Boo-tiful Bar

Boos and spirits beckon but traditional trimmings for fall found in this HHN bar’s queue summon a closer look. Grim grinning jack-o-lanterns, nostalgic images, and fall foliage add ambiance to this wicked watering hole. Calming warm, welcoming colors and, perhaps, a potion to calm the nerves can be found within the extended queue for TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D.

Paranormal Powered Prop Shop

Within the walls of this hidden gem, a host of horrors cast their spell to empty unsuspecting wallets. Williams of Hollywood (located next door to Mel’s Drive-In – aka Mel’s D I E in at HHN). Devil in the details here comes from the unique props, signs and other items that may have one adorned various areas of Universal Orlando Resort. Around Halloween, this memorabilia mecca takes a turn for terror with a cauldron full of creepy cool collectibles.

Ghoulishly Great Tribute Store

Returning to the New York area of Universal Studios Florida, this ultimate Halloween Horror Nights store is much more than a simple souvenir shop. In addition to stocking event merchandise and one-of-a-kind, creepy cool collectibles, Tribute Store can easily be considered a macabre museum due to its delightfully dark, detailed décor.

Carved into two distinctly different sections, this immersive store is an attraction to experience. Twisted towering skeletons with gruesome grinning gourds for heads guard the entrance doors of I. Stein & Co. (next door to Macey’s and Revenge of the Mummy).

Upon entering, visitors are immediately immersed within the treasures and traditions of Halloween. “Trick ‘r Treat” rules this roost. Oversized costume masks, glowing jack-o-lanterns, nostalgic signs of the season; classic, colorful walls and banners; and scores of yellow, orange and brown leaves invoke an amazing ambiance of Autumn. Rules of Halloween, hidden among the fall foliage, warn of traditions to be followed for this spooky season (or pay the price). Of course, Sam makes a couple of appearances, too!

At the back of this Halloween haven, a portal to an upside-down realm awaits. Tribute Store’s second section,“Stranger Things,” features a sinister side of Hawkins. Clad in a bright yellow hazmat suit, a single sentinel greets guests who enter this eerie experience. His attire, a testament to the attention to detail in this spooky shop, is screen accurate (right down to the equipment labels). Autographed cast photos, custom made tee shirts, and event merchandise tempts shoppers. Registers for the entire store are located along the perimeter fence to Hawkins National Laboratory (near the shop’s exit).

Dark depths of detail at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida add amazing ambiance and subtle spooks that are often overlooked. Visit all three of these stellar enhanced eerie experiences for excellent examples of the passion and attention to detail brought to un-life by the terror-ific talents of Universal Studios creative team.
