UPDATE: “Indiana Jones 5” will not be ready in time for its targeted release date of July 10, 2020, according to a report from Variety. Due to the reported change in writers, the film will not be ready to begin filming in April 2019 as originally planned.

ORIGINAL STORY: Back in March, we learned the fifth “Indiana Jones” movie would begin filming in April 2019. Now, it looks like there will be a new writer taking over the script for legendary director Steven Spielberg‘s next installment in the beloved adventure franchise.

A report surfaced on film news website Collider today claiming that David Koepp has been replaced as the film’s writer by “Solo: A Star Wars Story” scribe Jonathan Kasdan— who Inside the Magic’s Editor-in-Chief Mike Celestino interviewed back in May. Neither Kasdan nor Koepp have commented on the switch, and Lucasfilm has not yet issued a statement.

Kasdan is the son of renowned screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, who is responsible for iconic Lucasfilm movies like “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” The father-son duo teamed up to write “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” a prequel to the original “Star Wars” featuring a young Han Solo in his first encounters with Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian.

The reports interestingly do not mention Lawrence Kasdan as currently being attached to the project, but they also do not totally rule out the idea that Jonathan Kasdan would write the movie with a partner.

Koepp (“Jurassic Park, “Mission: Impossible”), who wrote the last entry to the Indy saga “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” had not previously shared any details related to his script for the next film aside from the fact that Shia LaBeouf, who played Indy’s son in that film, would not be appearing in it.

Steven Spielberg will be returning to direct the yet-untitled fifth “Indiana Jones” film and Harrison Ford will be returning to star as the title character, a world-renowned archaeologist whose exploits often lead to danger in exotic locales around the globe.

“Indiana Jones 5” is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 10, 2020.
