Earlier this week, the friends, family, and colleagues of Disney Legend Burny Mattinson gathered to celebrate his amazing 65-year career with The Walt Disney Company.

The event kicked off with this sweet video tribute to Mattinson’s work. In the video, Mattinson recalls his second or third day with the company, when he met Walt Disney: “I said, ‘Good morning, Mr. Disney.’ He turned around and said, ‘It’s Walt, son.”

Mattinson began his career at The Walt Disney Company when he was 18 years old. As an artist, producer, and director, he contributed to a long list of Disney classics, including “Sleeping Beauty,” “Lady and the Tramp,” “101 Dalmatians,” “The Sword in the Stone,” “The Jungle Book,” “Aladdin,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King,” “Pocahontas,” “Mulan,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” “Tarzan,” and more.

During the celebration, Mattinson received a letter from Disney CEO Bob Iger and a book filled with messages and drawings from Disney employees past and present. He was also presented with this one-of-a-kind statue:

When asked to sum up his 65-year career, Mattinson said:

“It’s been an absolute joy. I do love coming in every morning. I think one of the things that I found when I first started here, that has never changed, is the sense of anticipation of what’s going to happen here at the studio the next day, and I could hardly wait to get here. And something always did. That was remarkable. It’s been an exciting period for me, the whole 65 years, and I couldn’t thank everybody here enough for this very nice tribute.”
