The My Disney Experience app has been beneficial to Walt Disney World Guests, and now Tokyo Disney Resort is getting some similar technology.

Oriental Land, the owner of Tokyo Disney Resort, planned to launch a smartphone app sometime in 2018. The new app allows customers to buy tickets, make hotel and restaurant reservations, navigate Park maps, and view estimated wait times. It will be compatible with a smartphone-based e-ticket system introduced this week at the parks.

The app’s in-park shopping feature should help ease congestion at stores. Guests will now be able to shop for souvenirs in the app while walking around the Park or waiting in line, then pick up purchases on the way out or have them delivered.

When it launches, the app will only be available in Japanese. Other language options for international visitors will be added at a later date.

Oriental Land also plans to collect data on user activity within the Park to help develop new services in the future.

According to reports, Oriental Land is investing even more into IT development in addition to the smartphone app. The company plans to spend 12 billion yen ($111 million) by 2020 to remodel the Tokyo Disneyland entrance and install automatic ticket machines and facial recognition systems for Annual Passholders.
