Believe it or not, streaming generation, but there are still plenty of us out there who prefer physical media for the permanence it provides– not to mention the frequently cool box art. And Black Friday is always a great day to get some good deals on Blu-ray copies of many favorite films and television series.

With that in mind, I combed through Amazon.com‘s Black Friday offerings and hand-picked five of the most appealing Blu-ray discounts available throughout this weekend.

1 – “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial” 35th Anniversary Limited Edition

The quintessential 1980s Steven Spielberg movie is now available in this terrific-looking set featuring both Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD. The set also includes a CD Soundtrack of the soaring John Williams score, a collectible behind-the-scenes booklet, and nifty Lenticular Packaging.

2 – “The X-Files” Complete Series Collector’s Set

With the sci-fi TV classic returning for yet another new season this January, it’s a perfect time to catch up on all the preexisting episodes (including seasons 1-9 from 1993-2002 and the 6-episode revival event from 2016). Both theatrical movies are sold separately.

3 – “Alien” Franchise 7-Film Blu-ray bundle

This collection is admittedly kind of a mixed bag, but it’s at the very least interesting to trace the “Alien” franchise from its pitch-perfect horror-action beginnings to the middling, muddled mess of Ridley Scott’s most recent entries. The cost is worth it for the first two alone.

$39.99 on Amazon.com

4 – “The Bridge on the River Kwai” 60th Anniversary 4K Ultra HD

David Lean’s 1957 war-movie masterpiece has never looked better on home video than it does in 4K Ultra HD. If you haven’t seen this movie, I can’t think of a better way to experience it outside of a 70mm film print at your local revival theater. Starring Alec “Obi-Wan” Guinness.

$14.49 on Amazon.com

5 – “Mad Men” – The Complete Collection

A personal favorite that doesn’t have any genre elements outside of 1960s ennui, “Mad Men” is a 92-episode meditation on the art of commerce and the commerce of art. There’s also an episode where Don Draper talks about taking his kids to Disneyland, if that helps.

$97.90 on Amazon.com

Here’s hoping you had a very Happy Thanksgiving, and that you find all the deals you’re looking for today!
