Merlin Entertainment is planning to build their ninth LEGOLAND Theme Park and Goshen, New York is the target location. The project advanced last night when the Goshen Town Board approved a plan to allow commercial entertainment as well as the sale of town properties to Merlin.

The LEGOLAND facility is said to cost $500 million and will be constructed along Route 17 on 153 acres of a 523-acre site. Along with the theme park, Merlin plans to build a 250-room hotel on the property as well.

The facility will open from April 1 through Halloween annually and is expected to host 2 million visitors each year.

The project did receive some pushback from locals at the Goshen Town Board hearing, but the board decided that it was a minority that was against the potential theme park. In the end, the board voted 4-1 in favor of the project.

The new facility will be the third LEGOLAND location in the U.S. when it opens in 2019, provided the project gets final approval from the town.
