A supercharged virtual reality adventure is heading to LEGOLAND parks around the world.

The Great LEGO Race, developed under the supervision of attraction designer Merlin Magic Making, transforms three existing “Project X” roller coasters into an exciting experience that puts kids in the driver’s seat. The attraction pits riders in a race against colorful LEGO characters like Trendsetter, Pharaoh, Surfer Girl, Wizard and Pirate Captain. Race vehicles include a rocket-powered surfboard and stylish scooter fueled by espresso.

Guests wear VR headsets to experience thrills from every direction in a dazzling world where everything is made of LEGO bricks. During the ride, Bluetooth technology syncs virtual visuals with every twist and turn on the coaster.

The ride queue resembles a pre-race pit crew area, where guests can enjoy interactive, hands-on activities while they wait.

Riders can experience The Great LEGO Race with or without a VR headset. A pre-ride video will demonstrate the experience with side-by-side views of the coaster track and virtual reality environment, so riders can decide how much of a thrill ride they want before departing. The ride is intended for guests age 6 and up.

The Great LEGO Race arrives at LEGOLAND Malaysia in late 2017, followed by LEGOLAND Florida and Germany’s LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort in 2018.
