in Disney, Disneyland Resort, Food

Whether you have a fin, mermaid tail, or even if Ursela has granted you the joy of having two legs there is nothing better than some scrumptious food from under the sea! In the words of Sebastion:

Nobody beat us
Fry us and eat us
In fricassee
We what the land folks loves to cook
Under the sea we off the hook
We got no troubles
Life is the bubbles
Under the sea (Under the sea)

It’s no “seacret” that Disneyland has some of the most delicious food options! While some of their offerings can cost a few more dinglehoppers than this Princess can afford- there’s no shortage of yummy seafood and sometimes they are so good it’s absolutely worth spending a few extra dollars! This marketplace kiosk is a past favorite of mine that will be returning this November and I can’t wait! Boasting a wide variety of multicultural holiday treats; it also offers one of the most affordable Seafood options. This Shrimp Salad is great for those who love to dine ‘Under the Sea’ but don’t have the time to sit down for a meal or have a smaller budget. It’s perfect for a quick bite on the go or a small meal (especially when paired with one of the marketplace’s delicious desserts such as the praline & bourbon whoopie pie at Winter Sliderland).

Famous for its World of Color dinner package, Ariel’s Grotto is where you go when you have had a long day and need the chance to sit and relax and enjoy one final show for the night before tucking your tucker’ed out little ones to bed! Adults will love the unique and varied menu with options this lobster salad that is loaded with creamy avocado, crunchy bacon, and topped off with an unexpectedly delightful quail egg. Kids will love the fact that Ariel and two to four other Disney princesses are always on hand for pictures and autographs at breakfast and lunch.

7/8. Tropical Island Shrimp Salad / Taste of the Islands
Rainforest Cafe
Downtown Disney District, Disneyland Resort Area

Mangos, strawberries, grapes, roasted pumpkin seeds, honey-lime vinaigrette

$19.99

Caribbean Coconut Shrimp, dynamite scallops and shrimp, blackened tilapia topped with mango salsa, choice of a side

$29.99

The Rainforest Cafe holds a special place in my heart which is why I picked it as the only restaurant to have two recommended dishes. This themed restaurant is one that my parents took me to often growing up and I will always flash back to when I was a kid looking at the incredible aquariums while waiting in line. The Cafe offers endless entertainment throughout the meal as diners are surrounded by the sights and sounds of the “Rainforest” while enjoying a variety of dishes. For the most variety I recommend the Taste of the Islands but for something a little lighter (especially on a hot Disneyland day) you can’t go wrong with the refreshing Shrimp salad.

9. Seared Tuna with Soy and Ginger
Surfside Lounge
Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel, Disneyland Resort Area

Over Chopped Greens, Garden Vegetables, Orange Segments, crispy Wontons, and Wasabi Vinaigrette

$11.49

This is the only option that I chose that isn’t in either of the parks or Downtown Disney, but rather in one of the many incredible hotels nearby. Located inside of the Paradise Pier Hotel, Surfside Lounge is a nicely tucked away in a cozy little corner and is a great choice whether you’re staying at the hotel or not. Great for a “quick sit down” meal and more affordable than other options, the Seared Tuna is my go to choice when getting a quick lunch before heading into the park.

10. Fried Calamari
Alfresco Tasting Terrace
Disney California Adventure Park, Pacific Wharf

Lightly breaded Calamari and Haricot Verts served with Pepperoncini Aïoli

$11.00

My final choice brings me back to when I was a kid, around 7 or 8, and my parents took me to Disneyworld in Florida for the first time and my Dad tricked me into trying Calamari. I wasn’t an adventurous eater and my Dad got me to try many things by telling me they were chicken. Such is the case with Calamari and it wasn’t until after the meal he informed me that I had actually eaten a smaller version of Ursula’s tentacles. Which I’ll admit as an adult would not be an advised way of describing this dish when attempting to get your little ones to venture out of their chicken nugget comfort zone. In spite of his trickery, Calamari is still one of my favorite foods and I always have a little chuckle to myself about the fact that at one time I actually believed it was chicken!
