Get ready to board the thrill ride of your life at Knott’s Berry Farm. This Wednesday evening the famous “America’s First Theme Park” announced its new 150-foot-tall steel roller coaster HangTime, which will become the very first dive coaster on the west coast when it opens next summer.

HangTime will feature “gravity-defying inversions, mid-air suspensions and twisting dive tracks,” plus a vertical lift hill that sends riders into a 96-degree drop, which will be the steepest in California.

During Wednesday evening’s media announcement event, I had the opportunity to take a guided walking tour of the construction area for the new coaster, during which the park’s Vice President of Maintenance and Project Development Jeff Gahagan gave a detailed breakdown of what thrill-ride fans can expect once HangTime opens to guests.

At 2,198 feet long, HangTime will be one of only two rollercoasters in the Western Hemisphere to simulate a floating sensation by incorporating a negative-g stall loop, and the attraction will also feature multicolored nighttime chase lighting that will follow the individual trains as they travel down the track.

HangTime is currently under construction in the Boardwalk area at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, and is scheduled to open during the summer of 2018. Be sure to visit the park’s official website for more information.
