The event kicked off with a live band singing folk songs in theme with the new expansion.

After guests were delighted with a live band, Ken Potrock, the Senior Vice President of Disney Vacation Club got up and spoke about the development of the new property. He went on to discuss the inspiration behind the theming of the new property. “It was inspired by Walt Disney’s love of trains and you will see artifacts and elements of his love of trains throughout the property.” Potrock also discussed some of the coming amenities to be offered at the resort, including pool side manicures and pedicures.

After Potrock finished his speech, he introduced the general manager of the Wilderness Lodge, Thea Sargent. Sargent took the stage to discuss the combination of teams behind bringing the Copper Creek expansion to reality. She also went on to talk about the new construction’s impact on the Wilderness Lodge, “Copper Creek Villas & Cabins has brought a whole new dimension of rustic elegance… as well as adventure to this already beloved resort property.”

It was then time to officially open the doors of the new expansion and to do so required the help of a very special guest. That was when Sargent introduced Mickey Mouse to the stage.

To officially open the expansion, members of the audience were asked to chant in unison “welcome home” three times and then Mickey pulled on a string that forcefully blew clouds of steam and sound effects out of a train whistle.

As the sound of the whistle faded and the smoke cleared the air, Mickey, Sargent and Potrock all stood together with their hands up. Then a banner rolled down from the overhead structure above them and confetti exploded into the air.

The Copper Creek Villas & Cabins offer one of the widest ranges of accommodations at the Walt Disney World Resort. The expansion features 184 accommodation options, including Deluxe Studios, one- and two-bedroom Villas, three-bedroom Grand Villas and unique Waterfront Cabins.

This entire expansion was Inspired by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.  The resort features natural elements such as wood and stone in its design, which serve as small nods to the American transcontinental railroad.

The Deluxe Studios offer room for up to four guests. The larger one- and two-bedroom Villas and three-bedroom Grand Villas were designed to blend together the comforts of home with the excitement of the wilderness to create a fun retreat for families of any size. Each Villa is designed with families in mind as each offers full kitchens, expanded storage space for belongings, and private patios or balconies with scenic views.

The 26 all-new waterfront Cascade Cabins are the centerpiece of the resort. These two-bedroom, two-bath cabins sleep up to eight, offering modern luxuries with an upscale feel. The cabins also offer large dining and living room spaces, along with a screened-in wraparound porch.

Amenities throughout the cabins include a full kitchen, flat panel televisions, a washer and dryer. Some of the more premium finishes in the cabin include televisions inside the master bathroom mirror and a hot tub.

The resort is only a small water taxi ride away from Magic Kingdom, and offers easy bus access to the rest of the Walt Disney World Resort, making a great location for families looking to explore a large amount of Disney attractions.

When you book a stay at the Copper Creek Villas & Cabins you also get shared access to all of the amenities and activities available at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. This includes Geyser Point Bar & Grill and Roaring Fork.

Additionally, the resort features a new leisure pool, Boulder Ridge Cove Pool. The pool is themed to the legendary mining history of the Northwest featuring a zero-depth entry pool, a whirlpool spa and first-come, first-served cabanas. The pool also contains a brand new sports court, BBQ pavilions and a refurbished fire pit and movie area. Opening later this year, Salon by the Springs will offer pool-side manicures, pedicures and hair services.
