in Theme Parks

The first Hello Kitty theme park in China is set to open its doors inside a Shanghai shopping mall in October 2018. Three floors of the Shanghai Mart retail center will be transformed into an immersive Hello Kitty experience.

Each floor of the theme park will be decorated to showcase different eras in Shanghai’s history. The goal is to combine the nostalgia for the city’s history and fashion from the early 20th century (see below for an example) with the fun of Hello Kitty, who is known throughout the world.

This combo of history and Hello Kitty will be seen in Shanghai-style dolls, limited-edition merchandise, and meals that are only available in the park. In addition, there are plans for several interactive and immersive attractions.

Shimao Group, which licensed the Hello Kitty character from Sanrio, expects 3,000 visitors a day when the park opens next year.

Of course, Sanrio’s Puroland already exists in Japan, which has plenty of Hello Kitty to see.

And if you can’t make it to Shanghai for your Hello Kitty fix, there’s always Universal Orlando. Take a look at some of our videos from past Hello Kitty events in the park…
