Fans of the long (but also intermittently) running animated comedy “Futurama” know what it’s like to be uncertain of the show’s future, so to speak. The series initially ran on FOX for four years before being cancelled, then it returned as a series of direct-to-DVD movies, then was revived for an additional four half-seasons on Comedy Central, before going away forever. Or so we thought.

Now “Futurama” is coming back in an entirely different form– as a “freemium” game for mobile devices entitled “Futurama: World of Tomorrow”.

Fans of “The Simpsons: Tapped Out” or “Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff” will know what these world-building games are like, and how addicting they can be. Those among us with poor self-control will also admit to them being a strain on the ol’ wallet, until we realize we have a problem and force ourselves to permanently delete the app. I may or may not be speaking from personal experience here.

Regardless, “Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow” is at the very least being put together by the minds behind the show, including co-creator David X. Cohen, and will feature the return of original voice cast members Billy West (Fry, Professor Farnsworth, Dr. Zoidberg), Katey Sagal (Leela), and of course John DiMaggio (Bender).

The game will be available on iOS, Android, and Amazon’s app store, though no release date has been announced.
