DisneyQuest to remain open into 2017; status of NBA Experience attraction at Disney Springs unknown

In a surprising move, DisneyQuest at Disney Springs will remain open into 2017 and there are no updates from Walt Disney World on theĀ current status of the upcoming NBA Experience attraction that was set to replace it.

The 100,000-square-foot, five-story indoor interactive attraction that packs virtual reality entertainment and video games opened to much fanfare on June 19, 1998 as part of a major expansion at the area formerly called Downtown Disney. However, it was announced on June 30, 2015 that it would be closing soon to make room for an NBA-themed complex that would include a restaurant and a store.

Though DisneyQuest was scheduled to be closed this year, the Orlando Sentinel is reporting that it will remain open for the foreseeable future.

Disney sent out an email out to some employees recently saying the entertainment venue “will be operating into 2017, with no closing date to mention…We will be running the operation as normal until we hear otherwise.”

Additionally, a Disney spokesman had nothing to add to the report but did confirm toĀ the Orlando Sentinel that the NBA Experience attraction was still being planned on the site, despite ongoing rumors that the deal between Walt Disney World and NBA had fallen through.

We’ll have more on this story as it develops. Keep checking ITM for the latest Disney news!
