During a live event promoting the upcoming release of the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them film, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling made a surprise appearance to announce that five movies in total will be released in the series.
“We’ve done the plotting now and we’re pretty sure it’s going to be five movies,” Rowling said.

Speaking at a Global Fan Event for the first film, the news almost appeared to surprise the cast that was assembled for the live promotional event. It had long been believed that the “Fantastic Beasts” series would be a trilogy after Rowling herself responded to a fan’s tweet earlier this year, though a Warner Bros. executive did say at the time that “at least” three films were being planned.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” is set to open in U.S. theaters on November 18.
