‘MonsterKIDS’ is a fiendishly fun documentary about “The Impact of Things That Go Bump in the Night”

Those things that went bump in the night left quite the impression on my young mind.  For me, it was those Saturday afternoon horror marathons and a lucky find at the school book fair – a how-to book on monster make-up.  From there it was haunted houses, Halloween and the Haunted Mansion to the writing and dark photography I enjoy today.  When I saw the trailer for MonsterKIDS, I was immediately excited to see this documentary.  Watching the clips within brought back memories of childhood glued to the TV . . .

Creature Feature, Shock Theater, Phantom of the Opry, The Vampira show, Monster Movie Matinee – all shows, most with fiendish hosts, which brought to the delightfully dark movies of monsters and aliens.  Enjoying fright flicks like Dracula, Frankenstein, Godzilla and The Creature from the Black Lagoon, horror fans of today were born watching these macabre movies on Saturday afternoon, or if lucky enough, Saturday night.  These scary screenings affected an entire generation of spook fans who are now the legends creating today’s eerie entertainment.

Now a brand new documentary, written and directed by J Michael Roddy, MonsterKIDS The Impact of Things that Go Bump in the Night, is about to open the grave and dig into the realm of horror fans and the masterminds who create these nightmares.  Featuring interviews with legends like make-up masters Rick Baker, Greg Nicotero, Tom Savini; directors Joe Dante, Tom Holland and Mick Garris, actors like Carla Laemmle, Butch Patrick, Bob Burns, Riccou Browning and much much more. Meet Sara Karloff (daughter of Boris Karloff), Ron Chaney & Jaclyn Chaney (Great Grandchildren of Lon Chaney)! There’s also a host of horror enthusiasts who bring the monsters to us in toys, magazines and conventions (see a list of Monster Kids here).
