Pittsburgh’s iconic, signature haunted attraction, ScareHouse, returns this year with a vengeance!

The walkthrough experience has been ranked as one of “America’s Scariest Halloween Attractions” by Travel Channel and has been featured on Good Morning America, USA TODAY, CBS News, ABC News, Buzzfeed, Forbes, Geek & Sundry, and many other national media outlets — so you know you’re in for a wicked good time.

For those who don’t know, this critically-acclaimed seasonal attraction contains three separate sections all in one experience. This year features The Summoning (a previous fright classic, but with new characters added), as well as new sections Nocturnia, and Infernal.

With Nocturnia, ScareHouse Creative Director Scott Simmons is intent on bringing back an old-school feel with something a little artsy and off-the-wall:

“NOCTURNIA is a bit of a riff off of the TRICK ‘r TREAT attraction we developed last year,” Simmons told ITM, “I really loved the feeling of black and white artwork so it still has a bit of a storybook and wood-carved feeling, but this year’s attraction is heavily influenced by George Melies, “Something WIcked This Way Comes,” and Cirque Du Solei. (Because ScareHouse, as always, finds influences in weird places) Stay on the path, don’t explore the forest, and prepare to explore the wicked shadow circus.”

With their second new section of the house, Infernal, Simmons suggests their delving heavily into the supernatural…with a few surprises along the way:

INFERNAL is considerably more raw and visceral than anything we’ve done in a long time, possibly ever. There’s one more added story element to the attraction that we’re not quite ready to reveal yet – but it’s going to be absolutely packed with possessions, demonic creatures, tormented souls, and a final Forest of the Damned that’s among the best sets we’ve ever created.”

It goes without saying that the fright-masters at ScareHouse have really stepped up their game this year. Between new characters and two completely new areas, it looks like the 2016 Halloween season will be one to remember in Pittsburgh.
