Netflix explains why they decided against saving the ‘Agent Carter’ TV show

After the incredible Marvel show ‘Agent Carter’ was cancelled after only two seasons, many fans were hoping that Netflix would be its salvation. After all, Netflix has teamed up with Marvel Studios previously, creating magnificent shows such as ‘Jessica Jones’ and ‘Daredevil’.

Unfortunately they decided to pass on picking up the female-driven ‘Agent Carter’ show and in an interview with EW, chief content officer for Netflix, Ted Sarandos, spoke about why decided to skip on Carter.

“We’re looking for truly original brands to own,” he says, “and in that Marvel space we already have [original comic book shows] – so that was mostly why. They also have some output deal complexities. So when you pick it up, being able to pick it up globally is difficult even after it’s canceled. Some of those output partners still had it on the air, so they would argue it’s covered by their output [deals]. Unfortunately, it was a business decision more than a creative one.”

It is sad to hear that they apparently felt like ‘Agent Carter’ had more stories to tell and that the decision mainly came down to network politics, but that is the name of the game in Hollywood. Here is for hoping that Peggy Carter will at least show up in other Marvel movies/shows in the future.
