Ghostbusters

Regardless of which side of the fence you’re on with regards to Sony’s new “Ghostbusters” remake, we can all agree on one thing: the Ecto-1 is one cool ride no matter what.

But who hasn’t dreamed of riding in the Ecto-1 in all its glory? Now Lyft is partnering with Sony to make that dream come true for Ghostbusters fans in New York City (of course), San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston and Washington D.C. on July 1 and 2. Passengers will need to request the car via “Ghost Mode” on the Lyft app, according to The Hollywood Reporter, for a chance to ride in either the exact same one they used in the film or a replica. Lyft will also custom wrap select Toyota Highlander vehicles to make them look like Ecto-1s to help meet demand. Customers can also win free tickets to the “Ghostbusters” premiere in L.A. via the app.

As the Hollywood Reporter points out, the original Ecto-1 from the 1980s was a converted 1959 Cadillac ambulance while the new Ecto-1 is a repurposed 1980 Cadillac Fleetwood hearse. No word on whether Lyft will be providing proton packs for customers but a fan can dream, can’t they?

The Ecto-1 will make its glorious return to the big screen on July 15 along with a fresh cast to bust ghosts in New York.
