VIDEO: Maelstrom tribute final ride at Epcot as “Frozen” takes over Walt Disney World

Yesterday hundreds of fans poured into Epcot to become the last to pass through Maelstrom, the classic Norway boat ride attraction that is now closed forever to make way for an upcoming “Frozen” attraction.

With wait times stretching in excess of two hours on its final night, Maelstrom proved to be popular in its last weekend as those who had ridden it since 1988 said their final goodbyes.

We were there to capture the entire ride experience as a tribute to this now extinct attraction, seen in the POV multi-angle video below.

The majority of Norway will remain open for now, but Maelstrom’s sign has already been taken down and its ever-cascading waterfall stopped pouring, leaving us to only assume it’s been iced over as Elsa and her “Frozen” friends move in.

Epcot isn’t the only Walt Disney World spot for more “Frozen” entertainment. Disney’s Hollywood Studios continues to hold daily sing-along stage show performances and Magic Kingdom will soon receive a Christmas makeover, “Frozen” style with Elsa illuminating Cinderella Castle and appearing in the Christmas parade along with Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf.
