Last night Hong Kong Disneyland first unveiled their new Paint the Night parade, filling the park with brightly illuminated new floats and character costumes.

Though it won’t officially debut until October 1, the parade was previewed in the park with its seven original floats containing over 740,000 individual lights. Throughout September, the park is inviting more than 100,000 guests, including media, bloggers, celebrities, business partners, Cast Members and families, to preview the new nighttime parade.

“With Disney Paint the Night, Hong Kong Disneyland will be transformed into an outdoor moving party with vibrant colors and music every night. During the Cast Members’ preview nights we staged last week, our Cast Members were completely wowed by the spectacular experience and embraced the exciting atmosphere and exhilarating fun.” said Andrew Kam, Managing Director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

The parade concept comes from Steve Davison, the man behind Mickey’s Soundsational Parade, the Festival of Fantasy Parade, and many other entertainment offerings recently added to Disney parks.

Paint the Night is the first-ever fully LED parade created by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. It took more than two years to develop more than 1,000 scenic and lighting designs.

The floats of Paint the Night feature Tinker Bell, Monsters, Inc. Unit, Cars Unit, The Little Mermaid, Belle / Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story, and Mickey & Friends.

Among its more high-tech advancements are a new technique used to create fiber optic wigs and eyelashes that can be styled to create a glowing effect.

To interact with the parade, guests can also “paint the night” if they purchase the new Mickey Magic Paint Brush, which changes colors on select costumes at the touch of a button. The floats can also “talk” to all the other “Made with Magic” merchandise, including the “Mickey Glow Mitt” and “Minnie Glow Bow.
