There’s no case too big, no case too small. When you need help just call: Ch-ch-ch Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers!

The Disney Afternoon classic animated series is headed to the big screen in a film being described as an “origin story” for the popular crime-fighting critters. Much like “Alvin and the Chipmunks” and the recent “Smurfs” movies, the upcoming “Rescue Rangers” movie will feature CG characters in a live action world, not 2D animation like the old cartoon.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news last night, with commercials director Rob Rugan writing the script, having pitched the idea to Disney. Since then, Rugan has been passing the story around Twitter, excited for the world to learn of his project.

Tad Stones, one of the writers, producers, and creators of the original “Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers” series has also chimed in, writing to Rugan, “Congratulations on RR. Those commercials and shorts show you’ve got the sensibility for the job. Take care of my kids!”

Mandeville Films & Television will be producing the “Rescue Rangers” movie, having just worked on Disney’s “Muppets” movies.
