Interactive Talking Optimus Prime And Megatron Debut In Universal Studios Hollywood At Transformers: The Ride 3D

Optimus Megatron

Exactly one year after Transformers: The Ride 3D grand opened at Universal Studios Hollywood, the park this weekend took character interaction to the next level by debuting a new chance for Guests actually to converse one-on-one with Optimus Prime and Megatron.

Unlike the talking Transformers that recently began meeting and greeting with Guests at Universal Orlando – speaking a variety of entertaining but obviously pre-recorded lines – these new characters in Hollywood are completely interactive, reacting to Guests’ actions, commenting on their clothing, and even saying their names, all in familiar booming robot voices.

The Cybertronian characters have been available for photo opportunities at Universal Studios Hollywood for many months, with Optimus Prime and Bumblebee roaming the park since Transformers: The Ride 3D first opened there in May 2012 and Megatron arriving earlier this year.

It’s been more than three years since Disney first tested a talking character meet-and-greet, with an interactive version of Mickey Mouse first appearing at Disneyland’s Toontown, then again at the World of Color grand opening. But other than a few occasional appearances since, including at the 2011 D23 Expo and once at Walt Disney World, talking Mickey has yet to begin conversing with Guests daily like the Transformers are doing now.

Meanwhile, Transformers: The Ride 3D will officially open at Universal Studios Florida on June 20, less than a year after it began construction. But there’s no word yet whether the Autobots and Decepticons will also begin truly talking with Orlando Guests there any time soon.
