in Entertainment, Theme Parks, Universal Orlando

While many a creature has hidden in the shadows of Halloween Horror Nights 2012, Universal Orlando opens the gates of each event before dark descends, providing a unique opportunity to get a closer look at the characters that roam the streets. Long before sunset, ghouls scare in the bright light of day, proving that fear indeed takes control, even when staring it right in the face.

The new street experience featured at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights has no set scare zones, leaving a variety of creepy characters appearing anywhere, at any time. But despite the event’s nighttime name, the creatures begin haunting the streets by day. Even the vampires have found a way to stick around in the brightest sun, ensuring every guest has a close call.

The characters of Halloween Horror Nights first emerge from backstage areas appropriately next to the park’s replica of the Pantages Theatre, daytime home to Universal’s Horror Makeup Show, just across from Mel’s “Die In.” In what plays out like a Michael Bay-directed slow motion group walk to camera, each of this year’s Legions of Horror comes out together in a series of menacing moments.

But once in the streets, the tight knit groups quickly disband, assaulting each and every guest with their best groans, growls, and hisses, using daylight to their advantage to get close and show off their gruesome faces.

At the park’s entrance, The Iniquitus gracefully glide around around all who enter the park, engaging in eerie eye contact while guests tip-toe around them, awaiting the scares that lie beyond.
