Inside the new Jolly Holiday Bakery, bringing more Mary Poppins to Main Street USA at Disneyland

Last weekend Disneyland opened the new Jolly Holiday Bakery, positioned at the end of Main Street USA. Taking over the formerly mundane area that was most recently home to the annual pass processing center, the new Mary Poppins inspired eatery offers a sprinkling of charm with every meal – though not all the food is as perfect as Poppins herself.

But before we dive into the bakery’s cuisine, let’s take a tour around the new restaurant.

The bakery’s menu features more than baked goods and sweets, with an emphasis on sandwiches, soups, and drinks.

A few friends and I ordered a variety of items off the new menu.

I had the Jolly Holiday Combo, which came with a toasted cheese sandwich and corn chowder for $8.99, washing it down with a Practically Perfect Punch.

It wasn’t great. The soup was not bad but I found the grilled cheese to be bland. The fruit drink was tart and not special, served simply in a clear cup. It was a waste of money at $3.29.

Fortunately, the other people in my group loved the other sandwiches they ate, including an oven-roasted turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomatoes and mustard aioli on toasted ciabatta bread ($8.69) and a hot Angus roast beef sandwich with caramelized onions, horseradish aioli and white cheddar on a toasted onion roll ($9.69).

It’s a nice touch that the food is served on “newspaper,” much like grabbing fish and chips from an English pub.

Other menu items include a ham & cheese quiche, caprese sandwich, chicken Waldorf sandwich, Jolly Holiday Salad (lettuce, spiced pecans, feta cheese, red and yellow tomatoes and craisins, topped with raspberry vinaigrette), Angus roast beef salad, and grilled vegetable and whole grain salad.

Despite my own meal’s shortcomings, I do like the new establishment and I’ll definitely have to go back and try some of the deserts.
