Mermaids, munchies, and music entertain at Disneyland Hotel Soundsational VIP poolside party

Disney certainly knows how to throw a party. On the evening of June 2, 2011, special guests and press were invited to attend a nighttime bash at the Disneyland Hotel, set around its newly-renovated retro pool area. For two and a half hours, attendees enjoyed food, drinks, live entertainment, and character appearances all in honor of the launch of Disneyland’s Soundsational Summer, The Little Mermaid ride, Star Tours 3D, and Mickey’s Soundsational Parade.

Highlights of the night included sampling food from Trader Sam’s (and exploring its elaborately eclectic interior), posing with Stormtroopers, and watching “real” mermaids swim in the pool. It all fit in well with the retro theme of the recent Disneyland Hotel pool makeover, complete with monorail water slides and an old-style Disneyland sign. Trader Sam’s is a throwback to Tiki kitsch of the 50s/60s, Star Tours is a classic attraction that’s been remade, and mermaids used to swim in the submarine lagoon of Disneyland years ago.

And while the night was only for those invited, I brought along a camera (as always) to capture some of the fun for everyone to enjoy.

The food and entertainment were all fantastic. Disney certainly knows how to throw a party.
