Back to the Future: The Ride license plate, TRON: Legacy props and more movie history up for auction to benefit charities

An upcoming charity auction is providing theme park and movie fans a chance to bid on one-of-a-kind props and experiences from entertainment history.

The November auction at iCollector.com features many unique and instantly recognizable items that include an original screen-used “OUTATIME” license plate from Universal Studios’ “Back to the Future: The Ride” as well as a number of other props from the Back to the Future movie series.

“Back to the Future: The Ride” was replaced by “The Simpsons Ride” in 2008 and has been missed by many fans. Recent DVD releases of the original film included the ride’s original IMAX video (embedded from a fan’s post on YouTube for your enjoyment):

Also included in the Back to the Future lot, donated by the producer Bob Gale out of his private collection, are the “resizing” future jacket and self-lacing shoes worn by Mary McFly (Michael J. Fox) in Back to the Future II. The most elaborate (and expensive) Back to the Future item being auctioned off is the “most technically accurate reproduction” of the iconic Delorean time machine, estimated to bring in $80,000 – $120,000.

The proceeds from Back to the Future items will go toward Parkinson’s research, in honor of Michael J. Fox, who lives with the disease.

Many other movie props and experiences are also up for auction, including an original Identity Disk prop from the upcoming Disney film TRON: Legacy as well as a pair of tickets to attend the world premiere of the movie.

Other pieces of film history being sold as part of the auction are an original screen-used Golden Ticket from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and a license plate used on a Jeep in Jurassic Park. Proceeds from non-Back to the Future items will benefit other charities.

Most items are expected to be sold for well over $1,000, many several times more than that. Bids are being accepted online now with the actual live auction being held on November 6.
