Spooky Empire Ultimate Horror Weekend 2010 Wrap-Up: Costumes, celebrities, and creepy collectibles

in Entertainment, Events, Movies

The annual Spooky Empire Ultimate Horror Weekend brought hundreds of horror fans to the Wyndham on International Drive in Orlando Fla. from Oct. 8-10, 2010, promising plenty of eye-popping visuals and close encounters with celebrities.

While I did not personally have a chance to make it to the fright-filled weekend this year, our photographer Michael Gavin volunteered during all three days of the event, snapping photos for us along the way. Below are a few of my favorites he sent over, followed by two exhaustive slideshow galleries filled with plenty of sinister sights.

Plenty of celebrities make their way to the Ultimate Horror Weekend each year. This year, the mistress of the dark herself, Elvira, stuck out amongst the crowd:

Meanwhile star of the original A Nightmare on Elm Street Heather Langenkamp had a run-in with Freddy Krueger once more, though this time he was a fan:

But this year’s VIP guest was none other than the real Freddy Krueger, actor Robert Englund, who was honored at the event with an elaborate cake based on the Elm Street films:

Englund cut the cake in true Freddy fashion and I thought blurriness of this photo added some extra intensity to the moment, as if the famous Freddy glove’s cutting actually made the area shake from his power:

Back inside, costumed guests attended in abundance, with no shortage of creativity. My favorite costume photographed by Michael was Sam from Trick ‘r Treat:

If you haven’t seen Trick ‘r Treat, it’s a must-watch this Halloween season (and a steal for only $8 on Blu-Ray at Amazon through this link).

More Freddy fans made the mix, with this girl sporting the female Freddy rock star look:

The forces from Resident Evil’s Umbrella corporation were out, either hunting zombies or implanting the T-virus to create new ones:

Speaking of zombies, these Mickey ears got a nasty bite:

In addition to all the creative costumes, there was the usual assortment of scantily-clad women vaguely dressed for a horror-themed event. Halloween always seems to translate to wearing as little clothing as legally possible for some (not that anyone is complaining). But just in case, I’ll let you scroll down to the slideshows at the bottom of this post if you want to see those pictures.

And if you didn’t have time (or the know-how) to prepare your own zombie make-up or wounds, an Ultimate Horror Weekend instructional could show you how, with the most gruesome results:

Merchandise at the Spooky Empire Ultimate Horror Weekend proved to be as creative as the costumes. Want to separate yourself from the endless hoard of roaming zombies? Pick up a bloody name tag:
