Main Street Electrical Parade to continue at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom after Summer Nightastic ends

in Disney, Theme Parks, Walt Disney World

Citing “overwhelming success,” Disney announced today that its popular Main Street Electrical Parade will remain at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom theme park beyond the “Summer Nightastic” end date of August 14. Disney is now calling its run “open-ended,” meaning there is now plenty of time for future Orlando visitors to catch the classic show.

The announcement comes as no surprise to many fans (including myself) who doubted the parade was going to leave the park after having been trucked across the country from its previous home, the Disney California Adventure theme park in Anaheim. But it’s still exciting to know that my favorite parade of all time will be sticking around for a while.

Unofficial and unconfirmed rumors point to the parade remaining in Orlando through 2012 until the ongoing Fantasyland expansion is completed, at which point a new nighttime parade may emerge.

If you don’t have any plans to make it to Walt Disney World to enjoy the parade in person in the near future, you can watch its first public performance back on Main Street here:

Prior to that night’s show, we also went behind the scenes to explore its floats and learn more about what makes the Main Street Electrical Parade so magical.

The Main Street Electrical Parade is the only element of Summer Nightastic announced to stick around past August 14. The nightly Wishes fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom is expected to return, replacing the Summer Nightastic Fireworks Spectacular. The Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will also be returning to its non-Nightastic state and the Rock ‘n’ Glow dance party should disappear as well.
