LEGOLAND Florida open house preview reveals details about upcoming kid-friendly theme park

At today’s open house preview, new details were revealed about the upcoming LEGOLAND Florida theme park, scheduled to open in Fall 2011.

The new kid-friendly theme park will be located in the former home of Cypress Gardens, which closed in September 2009. LEGOLAND Florida will not only feature new adventures but also re-theme many familiar Cypress Gardens elements, from shops to attractions. Shown off at the open house were concept art of attractions and areas to be featured within the new LEGOLAND theme park.

This mural built at the event and made entirely of LEGO bricks depicts what the entrance to LEGOLAND Florida will look like:

LEGOLAND Florida’s first permanent model was also shown off – a White House made of LEGO bricks complete with a tiny Obama family in front:

Areas of the theme park not being re-themed from Cypress Gardens were referred to as “New Blocks” and consist of Castle Hill, Land of Adventure, and LEGOLAND Florida City. Some of these areas appear to feature new child-friendly roller coasters and the Driving School LEGO race car attraction:

Other re-themed areas of Cypress Gardens include Aunt Julie’s Country Kitchen becoming the Garden Restaurant, Adventure Arcade becoming the Imagination Zone, and Gamesville becoming DUPLO Play:

Attendees at today’s open house preview were given FAQ brochures explaining some of the details behind the change from Cypress Gardens to LEGOLAND Florida:

Of particular note are:

  • Attractions at LEGOLAND Florida will include Driving School race cars, a 4-D movie theater, and kid-friendly roller coasters
  • Admission ticket prices have not yet been set, but are expected to be similar to those at LEGOLAND California, at around $57 for children and $67 for adults
  • Jobs are currently available for application at legoland.com/jobs
