Video: Summer Nightastic Fireworks Spectacular debuts at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

in Disney, Theme Parks, Walt Disney World

The Summer Nightastic Fireworks Spectacular premiered last night during a special preview for all park guests at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. The new show was received with audible “oohs” and “aahs” with the crowd watching in amazement as fireworks erupted from all sides – and even on top of Cinderella Castle.

Before we get to the details of the show, here’s a video of the Summer Nightastic Fireworks Spectacular in its entirety. The video utilizes high-quality binaural audio, so I encourage you to watch while wearing headphones for the most immersive experience:

The show is just under 12 minutes long, putting it at roughly the same length as Wishes, the popular Magic Kingdom fireworks show that has gone on hiatus for the summer. I would guesstimate that the Summer Nightastic Fireworks Spectacular uses around the same number of overall fireworks as Wishes, but rather than focusing them all in one general area, it spreads them out across the night sky.

This new fireworks show is the first to include Disney’s perimeter launch sites on a nightly basis. That is, fireworks are not only shot off behind Cinderella Castle but also surrounding it (and park guests) on the left and right, creating a semicircle of colorful explosions in the sky. In the past, perimeter fireworks have been used at the Magic Kingdom only on special occasions like July 4th, New Year’s Eve, and during separate hard-ticketed events like the now-defunct Pirates and Princess Party. And it was the Pirate and Princess Party that inspired this new Summer Nightastic Fireworks Spectacular, as its Magic, Music, and Mayhem fireworks show was very similar to the new ongoing nightly presentation.

In fact, many of the sequences found in the Summer Nightastic Fireworks Spectacular are nearly identical to those seen during Magic, Music, and Mayhem. However, the new show’s dialogue is unique, slipping in the word “Nightastic” whenever possible.  After all, this new fireworks show is part of Disney’s Summer Nightastic promotion, officially launching tonight, June 6, and running through Aug. 14.

Based on last night’s guest reactions, the new Summer Nightastic Fireworks Spectacular seems to be a hit, generating plenty of smiling faces. The combination of familiar Disney character voices and unexpected fireworks emerging from every corner guarantees excitement all around.

In addition to the Summer Nightastic Fireworks Spectacular, Disney has brought back the fan-favorite Main Street Electrical Parade to the Magic Kingdom, also performing nightly. Check back later today for a video of the parade’s first full public performance, also occurring as a preview last night.
