I went and saw Toy Story 3 this evening in part because of the review I listened to you give it this morning.
The movie was quite enjoyable, very touching and very funny lots of Laugh out loud moments for me, and a few moments of a quick dabing away of a tear (though there was noithing as sad as the "when she loved me" song from TS2).
It is true thaat the 3D did not add much to the movie, it was nice in places, but also as the other reviewer you had on the show mentioned it really made the short cartoon Night and Day. It turned out that the 3D theatre was the most convinient theatre for me to catch the film at, not knowing what they are doing for the short at 2d showings makes it hard to say if I would have made the same decision again ...$9 for a matinee is still a bit of sticker shock for me as I don't go to many first run movies, but still all in all I'm glad I saw it.

I saw Toy Story 3 last Saturday, and while I greatly enjoyed the previous two, and felt a little emotional attachment especially in the second one, this movie blew me away emotionally. I cried several times, and they had me guessing from start to finish. Bravo Pixar, another home run.
On a related note, I found Andy's resemblance to yours truly kind of uncanny (even down to the fashion sense and hairstyle, not to mention we probably share a first name). I love how the same actor has voiced Andy in all three films.
(A word about Day & Night: I agree it was innovative and really quite interesting, stylistically, but I felt the message was a little heavy-handed. The incident that ultimately caused the final realization of the characters was spelled out a little too much for me, it almost made it seem like propaganda in the end. Still, I've never seen anything like that visually at least.

The "reverse silhouette" effect being played with in Night & Day was one of the best reasons for seeing the movie in 3-D:
I couldn't imagine how the effect would look in 2-D, and I'm guessing it wasn't supposed to.
As for the movie, would've liked to have seen Totoro in Bonnie's room get a little more screentime.
In Parks-related news, though, what will this do to Lotso's meet-and-greets at the Studio?...At the risk of spoilers, what kid would WANT to give him a hug now?

I saw Day & Night again yesterday, but this time in 2D. And it just wasn't the same. It lacked the same wow factor. Still entertaining, but definitely needs to be seen in 3D.

I don't recall hearing anything major. I know he casually mentioned that Lotso isn't necessarily the friendliest character ever, but that's pretty well known at this point. In fact, I was about 98% sure that was going to be the case before even seeing the movie. Seemed obvious to me.
Or was there something else?

I have to agree with that completely. Don't get me wrong, visually it was amazingly modern and nostalgic, but one thing that puts Pixar above everyone else is that they respect their audiences intelligence. They don't need to make things so blatant, yet a message or theme comes across in every movie. Describing Day and Night as "heavy handed" is accurate because the message was clear from the start. The whole radio-broadcast just felt unnecessary and (IMO) made the short too repetitive.
I know we shouldn't mess with art, but I'd prefer to see a version that clipped out that radio broadcast scene completely.

Very nice review of Toy Story 3, Ricky.
I saw the film opening weekend in 3D, and I absolutely loved it. It had such a strong emotional push for those of us who literally grew up with this series, such as myself. The story, characters, and emotional moments lived up to the first two films; and I agree that this is a perfect ending to the trilogy. For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, what are you waiting for?! Get out there and see it in theaters, it'll be well worth it.

I agree the Night and Day short was very well done and a must see in 3D. I was with our 8 month old who decided to start trying to talk to the images that must have appeared as blurry blobs to her on the screen without glasses. So I did miss some of Night and Day and watched most of it hidden on the side entrance to the theater.

That is what I was referring to. I had no idea that was the case. The only thing I heard about Lotso was the vintage commercials that were released. I don't read reviews of the movies I want to see beforehand as I'd like to be surprised as much as possible. Your review didn't give away the specifics of the film either, which was great. I was literally walking to the theater when Skipper Ben dropped that comment and I thought "Oh great, now I know who the bad guy is". I spent the time watching it just waiting for him to turn. Not the biggest deal ever, but yes that could certainly be considered a spoiler to some.
